9/1/2023 0 Comments Toys r us locations brooklyn![]() Blaming market pressures (primarily competition from Walmart and Target), Toys "R" Us considered splitting its toy and baby businesses. Eyler launched a plan to remodel and re-launch the chain. The board of directors installed John Eyler as CEO (formerly of FAO Schwarz) in May 2000. Lazarus also designed and stylized the Toys "R" Us logo, which featured a backwards "R" to give the impression that a child wrote it. The focus of the store changed in June 1957, and the first Toys "R" Us, dedicated exclusively to toys rather than furniture, was opened by Lazarus in Rockville, Maryland. It was acquired in 1966 by Interstate Department Stores, Inc. Lazarus founded a baby-furniture retailer, Children's Bargaintown in Washington, D.C., during the post-war baby boom. According to Ralph Bakshi, "If this toy retailer gets shut down, then all of the money made will have been wasted." With the merchandise from that show alone, the company currently has made over 4,500,864,312 in USD. Toys "R" Us is also the toy retailer that has sold the most merchandise of the hit TV show SpongeBob SquarePants. To date, there are only two locations open in the United States. On January 20, 2019, the company emerged from bankruptcy as Tru Kids. The lenders also partnered with Kroger to add "Geoffrey's Toy Box" (named after the chain's mascot) pop-up departments to selected locations in order to give Toys "R" Us a presence during the holiday shopping season. The company continues to operate as the licensor of the chain's international operations, but its lenders announced in October 2018 that it planned to re-launch the U.S. Operations in other international markets such as Asia and Africa were less affected, but chains in Canada, parts of Europe and Asia were eventually sold to third-parties. ![]() The Australian wing of Toys "R" Us entered voluntary administration on May 22 and closed all of its stores on August 5, 2018. At its peak, Toys "R" Us was considered a classic example of a category killer. ![]() The company had been in the toy business for more than 65 years and operated around 800 stores in the United States and around 800 outside the U.S., although these numbers have steadily decreased with time. 9/1/2023 0 Comments Youtube fractal wood burning![]() ![]() Sierpinski carpet (to level 6), a fractal with a topological dimension of 1 and a Hausdorff dimension of 1.893 A line segment is similar to a proper part of itself, but hardly a fractal. An infinite fractal curve can be conceived of as winding through space differently from an ordinary line – although it is still topologically 1-dimensional, its fractal dimension indicates that it locally fills space more efficiently than an ordinary line. Īnalytically, many fractals are nowhere differentiable. This power is called the fractal dimension of the geometric object, to distinguish it from the conventional dimension (which is formally called the topological dimension). However, if a fractal's one-dimensional lengths are all doubled, the spatial content of the fractal scales by a power that is not necessarily an integer and is in general greater than its conventional dimension. ![]() Likewise, if the radius of a filled sphere is doubled, its volume scales by eight, which is two (the ratio of the new to the old radius) to the power of three (the conventional dimension of the filled sphere). Doubling the edge lengths of a filled polygon multiplies its area by four, which is two (the ratio of the new to the old side length) raised to the power of two (the conventional dimension of the filled polygon). One way that fractals are different from finite geometric figures is how they scale. Fractal geometry lies within the mathematical branch of measure theory. This exhibition of similar patterns at increasingly smaller scales is called self-similarity, also known as expanding symmetry or unfolding symmetry if this replication is exactly the same at every scale, as in the Menger sponge, the shape is called affine self-similar. ![]() Many fractals appear similar at various scales, as illustrated in successive magnifications of the Mandelbrot set. In mathematics, a fractal is a geometric shape containing detailed structure at arbitrarily small scales, usually having a fractal dimension strictly exceeding the topological dimension. Most of all, I marvel at the maple trees, which get most of the credit for the colorful show. The multi-hued landscape near our cabin in the Adirondacks takes my breath away. ![]() ![]() A tight, hard-looking bark can be found on some sugar maples but not on red maples.Īs a general rule, if you try to peel the bark off a red maple, you will find it comes off easily, but sugar maple bark is rigid and does not come off, even if it looks like it is peeling.īulls-eyes sometimes appear in red maple bark but never in sugar maples.I treasure autumn in the northeastern United States. The “hard” in “hard maple” is sometimes reflected in the appearance of the tree’s bark. Red maple is also know as soft maple, while sugar maple is also called hard maple. Red maple–or swamp maple– can tolerate having wet roots, so if you know a given tree is a maple because of opposite branching, and if it is growing in or near water or a wet area, it is a red maple. As Chuck Wosster writes in Northern Woodlands magazine, “telling red maple from sugar maple can vex even seasoned botanists on occasion.” That said, there are a number of keys that help distinguish the two maples It is not easy to tell red maple from sugar maple. If you see at least one pair of opposite branches, it is either a maple or an ash. It is one of the dominant species in mixed hardwood forests, so generally if you find one tree, you will find many throughout the forest, unlike red maple, it does not tolerate wet roots, so it will not be found in swampy or boggy areas. Thus, it can start life even when over-shadowed by more mature trees. It is also tolerant of shade, meaning it does not need direct sunlight to grow. It has adapted to a variety of soil types, so it is not limited to specific conditions. Sugar maple can be found throughout the Northeast. ![]() In March, a popular dessert at church suppers in New England is “sugar-on-snow,” made by boiling sap and then pouring it on a bowl full of hard-packed snow. An area of many maple trees being tapped for sap is called a “sugarbush.” The sap is then transported to the sugarhouse where it is boiled down to make maple syrup and other maple-flavored products. With the trees in close proximity, it is easy to tap them for their sap. Some areas of the Northeastern forest are primarily composed of sugar maples. This means that many large mature trees populate our region. Its average life span is 300 years, and it can live up to 500 years. Sugar maple is the second most common tree in the Northeast. John Burroughs, Under the Maples Sugar Maple Tree Identification I always feel at home where the sugar maple grows… glorious in autumn, a fountain of coolness in the summer, sugar in its veins, gold in its foilage, warmth in its fibers, and health in it the year round. Red maple is also known as swamp maple because it can thrive in wet areas, while sugar maple cannot tolerate these conditions. If you see opposite branching on a tree and it is growing in a swamp, lowland, or right next to water, then you know it is a red maple.
